This is Gabby! She's so cute- she's my little neighbor friend. She is SO incredibly mature for her age, you can have great political and even theological discussions with her, i'm not kidding!

I titled this Innocence, because I sometimes don't know what to think of the concept. Is it good to be innocent? In what ways? How does that differ from naiveté? If we are all evil, in a sense, are we then all not innocent? All these questions run through my head- who is really innocent? Well, I wrote about innocence once in a poem called "Avoid." It follows below. I believe sometimes everyone is this child.

 Avoid
=====

Large, wild eyes, open, this child watches
        the evil of the world,
                consumes it,
                tastes it, takes it in
        as her very own -
                she's a void,
                a vacuum - sucking vitality
                with every,
                        hopeless,
                                whisper.

Death is in the room.
Death is before her now,
Death sleeps beneath her windblown
        chalky,
                white,
                        sheets.

Lust is in the basement, clanging
        and chattering her chains,
                and lonely.

This child hears, this child
                        knows.

Who is the child,
who watches the evil of the world
Who is the child, who see all
        the suffering and inflicted,
        with those
                large,
                open,
                eyes.

Tell me, who is the child, who
        watches Death, so still
covered by her chalky, white sheets.
Who is this child, who whispers troubles,
        but can tell no one
                what has been seen,
                of the horrors,
                that are
                and will be...

Tell me, who is this child
        who watches over Lust
        bound in her chains,
                lonely.
Who is this child,
        who has parted
        with all rays of hope.

Tell me, who is this child,
with constant, wild, eyes she's
        a consumer,
        a vacuum,
        a void...

I'm beyond sick with seeing all this perverted shit on this web, so I looked up innocence. It's sad that this poor child may grow up to be a soiled dove. It needs to be stopped.

I love this picture because you can see the look on her face and think that it can mean something: fear, curiosity, or perhaps simply just neutral; but I personally think children are one of the most innocent things in this world.

Children haven't done anything wrong, they just want to be loved, cared for and noticed. Children are so innocent in each and every way.

This picture is so moody, I love her facial expression. It's like there are a million questions passing through her mind.

she's awesome! very very thoughtful eyes. :glomp:

hmmmm i dont think that one can be mature yet innocent. cos maturity, to me, means to have seen the world, to have seen human nature in its good and bad.
it'll be inevitable that innocence is lost, but hope can still remain.
hope that the innocence can be regained.

hmmmm.... i love your comment.

you said 'hope that the innocence can be regained'

can innocence be regained after reaching maturity?

hrm.... so fascinating... so you propose that some that have lost their minds, the crazies, may have regained their innocence... hm... okay, i buy that.

how about this-
my dad doesn't watch movie's except for G-rated and disney movies. He's a very family-oriented guy and he doesn't like all that violence and stuff. yet- he's seen many evils of the world- been exposed to a lot- but... he chooses to surround himself (not just in movies, but with everything he does) with nothing dark.

in this example can we say that he's 'retained his innocency'?

i doubt so. really really really doubt so :upset:

perhaps one could choose to; perhaps those who have "lost" their minds have regained their innocence, through ignorance or deliberate rejection of reality.

what do you think?
